Most people have never heard of it.

The wave of Mexico 🌊
Boca de Pascuales sits in the state of Colima, about an hour from the city of Colima and three hours from Guadalajara.
It's a black sand beach where the Armeria River meets the Pacific Ocean, and that river mouth has been quietly building some of the most consistent, most dangerous sandbars in the world for decades.
The wave is a proper A-frame beach break. It fires both left and right, holds swell from 3 feet all the way past 16, and barrels so hard and so fast that it's been compared to Puerto Escondido since before most of the current tour riders were born.
The canyon offshore focuses open ocean Pacific swell into the beach like a funnel. When it fires, the tubes are enormous and the wipeouts are worse.
It's been on bodyboarding's radar for a long time. Pride Bodyboards ran a trip there 11 years ago and put out a film called The Mexican Mirage, one of the first times the bodyboarding world got a proper look at what Pascuales does.
The film follows Jared Houston, Pierre-Louis Costes and Lewy Finnegan into the heart of rural Mexico in search of paradise.

The IBC held a Pascuales Bodyboard Festival as far back as 2022.
But the 2026 edition is different. The Pascuales Bodyboard Pro is a confirmed stop on the official calendar, July 3 to 9, with around 200 competitors from 20 countries expected. Pierre-Louis Costes, Louka Zaninotto, and Tristan Roberts are all confirmed entries.

The riders of Mexico
Mexico doesn't have a world champion on the board yet. But it has something else. Waves that have made champions out of everyone else who's dared to ride them.
Zicatela in Puerto Escondido hosted IBA world tour events in both 2011 and 2012, two of the most celebrated contest days in the sport's history. Jeff Hubbard won both years. Pierre-Louis Costes pushed him to the wire in 2011, famously failing to exit one tube that would have sent him to the final. The wave was that good. That dangerous. That unforgiving.
The local bodyboarders who grew up riding it? A different breed entirely.
Humberto "Beto" Olivera became not just a local charging legend at Zicatela but a community leader, one of the loudest voices behind Puerto Escondido's recent designation as a World Surfing Reserve. He described Zicatela as “our identity, our history, our life”. That's from someone who spent decades actually riding it.
Then there's Hector "Motor" Santiago, the Puerto Escondido local who became mentor to the next generation. Motor's contribution isn't measured in contest results. It's measured in the riders he shaped.
One of them is Juan Carlos Noyola, better known as Jaivo. Born and raised in Puerto Escondido, he joined the Pride Bodyboards team in 2023 at 18, developed entirely under Motor's eye on Zicatela. The way he inverts is already drawing comparisons to some of the best to ever ride that break.
And then there's Jesús "Nesta" Núñez from Mazatlán, Sinaloa. He picked up a Morey Boogie in 1983 when there were about ten bodyboarders in his entire city. He competed nationally, travelled to Brazil and the United States representing Mexico, and spent 36 years surfing every major Pacific break in the country. The kind of career that never makes headlines outside Mexico but holds the whole scene together from the inside.
Now the Circuito Profesional de Surf y Bodyboard Colima (The Colima Surf & Bodyboard Circuit) is growing. Mexico is getting consistent world tour stops. And a Mexican junior champion feels less like a dream and more like a matter of time.
When the best riders on earth paddle out at Pascuales in a week's time, some of them will be going to a wave they've never seen in person. The local kids who paddle out alongside them will have been riding it their whole lives.
Sintra goes prime for the big 3-0
The Sintra Bodyboard Festival just announced that for its 30th edition in September, the women's division is being upgraded to Prime Series status.
Sintra is the longest-running event still active on the world tour. It has never stopped.
For 3 decades it's been one of those events that carries real soul alongside the points and prize money, and upgrading women to Prime means more ranking points, a bigger purse, and more eyes on the division at a venue that already has prestige written into its DNA.

IBC already planning 2027 🗓️
While the contest action has been running, the IBC quietly dropped the official event submission deadlines for the 2027 season earlier this month.
That's a good sign. Promoters being locked in early is exactly the kind of structural planning that gives the tour stability and keeps new stops like Pascuales coming back year after year.
