Welcome to the 20th Edition of The Bodyboard Report! 🤙

Big news to kick things off this week!

A few fresh stories from around the world, including one that's going to make you double check your GoPro footage. I had it stacked for last week, but the email got a “bit long in the tooth” if you catch my drift…

Grab a Hubboard and let’s dive right in!👇

The Global Community is live 🌊

For months this has been the plan quietly taking shape behind the scenes, and now it's here.

The Bodyboard Report’s Global Community is officially open and you are invited.

Invite your friends!

This is your free space to connect with riders from every coastline, drop into your country or preferred language’s tribe, and be part of building a global tribe with many benefits.

Travel deals, gear drops and special offers, media, coaching, and much more will blossom inside.

In the welcome letter I wrote about strength in unity…

So I put it to the test and dropped my favorite air man Jeff Hubbard a line.

Jeff goes:

“Join the global tribe and there’s a 10% OFF voucher from Hubboards, waiting for you the moment you're in! Invite your pals, and they get one too.”

Thanks, Jeff! 💪

Guilherme Montenegro breaks through in Peru

The Punta Negra Junior Pro wrapped up on Monday, and Brazil's Guilherme Montenegro took his first ever IBC World Tour win, beating local favourite Jesus Mendoza in the final.

The 6 golden tickets to October's Gran Canaria Frontón King Grand Final are now locked in.

Montenegro, Jesus Mendoza, Waldo Palacios and Lucciano Campos claimed automatic spots as semifinalists, with Kaleb Zagarra and Junior Mendoza rounding out the field as the top scoring quarterfinalists.

One nice subplot. Peruvian brothers Junior and Jesus Mendoza landed in the same 3 man heat in Round 5, and both advanced together.

Cokes is calling, and the trailer just dropped 🥤

The Maldives Pro 2026 trailer is out, and the tour heads to Thulusdhoo for the first time in series history to take on Cokes, the wave we told you all about a few editions back.

This is the 4th edition of the Maldives Pro and the only Asian stop on tour this season.

The IBC and the Maldives Bodyboarding Association are teaming up to deliver what they're calling the most demanding stage yet.

Luna Hardman, stepping out of the shadow 🎙️

The latest IBC Beyond the Tour episode (9) with Luna Hardman is a good one.

She opens up about double shoulder surgery, and the strange gift hidden inside it.

The forced break reset her relationship with the sport and brought back the joy that competing full time had quietly worn down.

She also talks about carving her own identity next to her mum, 5 x World Champ Neymara Carvalho, and why she's never wanted to win on anyone's name but her own.

Worth the watch here and you can also revisit a previous edition of The Bodyboard Report on these iron ladies.

Isabela Sousa joins the APB board 🌊

Speaking of iron ladies, 5 x World Champion Isabela Sousa has been appointed to the APB's Board of Directors, effective immediately. The announcement came out of Sydney on July 24.

Isabela won World Titles in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2022 across the IBA, APB and IBC tours, and she's just off the back of winning the 2026 Shark Island Challenge.

Born in Caucaia, Brazil, she's been at the front of progressive women's riding for close to 2 decades now.

On the board she'll help shape the APB's strategy on gender equity, athlete welfare, tour development, judging criteria and grassroots participation for women and girls coming up in the sport.

"I'm proud to be part of the journey with the APB," Isabela said, pointing to the Olympic dream that's long lived in the back of every bodyboarder's mind.

APB CEO Jamie McCall called her the right voice to make sure women aren't just included in the sport's future, but leading it.

More in the APB and their good work a couple editions back. 👇

The photobomb of the summer 🦈

Soaren Stevenson was filming his brother in law sponging waves at Newport Beach, California on July 25th. Nothing unusual. Early morning session, decent swell.

It was only hours later, watching the footage back, that he spotted it. A 6 foot juvenile great white shark, fully airborne, spinning mid breach just yards behind the bodyboarder, who had absolutely no idea.

"That's not even a dolphin, that's a shark," Stevenson said once he zoomed in.

Marine biologist Christopher Lowe from the Cal State Long Beach Shark Lab reckons the shark was either scratching an itch or just having a good time.

SoCal is having a properly sharky summer thanks to El Niño and the marine heatwave, so keep the toes up out there.
